The Consequences of Eye Contact

There are plenty of warnings for guests before they ever board any of the all-terrain vehicles to journey into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye.  Though it promises endless treasure and one's wildest dreams, everyone knows that upon meeting the powerful diety, Mara, the one rule is to avoid looking him in the eyes.  The evidence of those who have disobeyed is everywhere in the temple.  And yet, people seem to continue to engage Mara in a staring contest, risking his wrath and sending most everything into chaos.
