The Weeping Widow

Well, almost-widow... in the lore of Phantom Manor--Disneyland Paris' much darker reimagination of the classic Haunted Mansion, Melanie Ravenswood is the daughter of the wealthy and malevolently cruel Henry Ravenswood, owner of the imposing property on the hill overlooking Thunder Mesa and controller of the mines at Big Thunder Mountain across the water.  A controlling man in all facets, he becomes jealous when his daughter falls in love with a train engineer, and on their wedding day, he lures the hopeful groom to the attic and hangs him.  Melanie is left to wallow in grief, convinced her love will come one day. But she never takes off her wedding dress, and she never stops weeping... doomed to be alone forever.

That's pretty darn weighty, but it is part of why I love Phantom Manor so much. Disney's much more wicked portrayal is bold and edgy, and it makes for an unforgettable story and ride!

Melanie Ravenswood weeps in grief over a betrothed who will never return, in the sinister and dark storytelling of Disneyland Paris' Phantom Manor.
