Side-Eye to Trouble
When Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened, it was groundbreaking not only for the advanced, super complex technology it used, but also for creating a maximal immersive experience that blurred the lines between queue and ride. When guests finish up the pre-show briefing with Rey, they board a Resistance ship piloted by Commander Bek that's set to get them out of Batuu as the First Order is closing in. But things go awry when the ship is captured by a Star Destroyer and boarded. This turns out to be an interlude, as another wait ensues before riders board the actual trackless ride vehicles, but it's an awesome bit of storytelling that places guests into the story directly, making them players in the scene. Without even realizing it, guests are on a part of the ride already, enthralled by the action and suspense unfolding around them. It's just part of that expanding push to enhance theme park narratives deeper and deeper!
