The Forested Holidays

For the longest time, I could never get an angle of the colorful and luminous woodland Christmas ambiance at Grizzly Peak during the holiday season--especially in the more heavily forested area around Grizzly River Run. But then I realized that the wide angle hunting that I clung to early on in my photography dabbling didn't work for the composition I had in my head.  I needed something in a medium focal length to balance the need to maintain an overview composition with some amount of depth.  As one moves from wide angle to telephoto, a picture's depth is compressed, enhancing the interplay of foreground and background.  With that understanding, pictures like the one below felt more satisfying and more representative of the image I had in my head!
