Chasing the Holiday Light
It's been a while since I've photographed World of Color, so when I was visiting the parks last week, I decided to capture some of the many visually stunning moments of the show. My approach to photographing World of Color has evolved since I first diving into more serious camera work. Early on, nighttime photography automatically meant longer exposures, and my early devotion to wide angle photography meant that pictures from World of Color were always overviews and often not very compositionally interesting. Over time and over acquiring better equipment, I've realized that the best photos of the show are the ones that freeze the dynamic motion of the water jets and light beams, and those require quicker exposures, often more zoomed in to fill the frame--even if that frame usually doesn't capture the entire panorama of the show scene. I still do wish the projections on the water fountains were more crisp but that's just a limit of the technology and the canvas. The water itself is not crisp because its always spraying. Nonetheless, I do like how these batches of pictures turned out, so enjoy this holiday version of World of Color: Season of Light!
