Aulani Architecture II
I've posted a lot of pictures of the different "attractions" at the Aulani Resort & Spa, but today's photo set has more of a focus on the architecture of the hotel itself. I've posted about this before, and I appreciate how the Disney Imagineers and the architects at WATG who designed this spot of paradise did authentic research and worked with local cultural advisors to produce buildings that reflect the spirit and history of the Hawaiian peoples and their designs. From the pointed thatched roofs to the large-scale art to the vernacular stick architecture, traditional design forms the building blocks to craft buildings and facades that are many times the scale of traditional Hawaiian buildings. But there is a respect and honoring of Hawaii in this craft, and it all adds up to an escape that retains an air of authenticity!
