The Towering Icon
I thought today might be a good day to post a photo of the Shanghai Disneyland Enchanted Storybook Castle, because it's been a while since I've posted a picture of the Shanghai Disneyland "weenie." This isn't one of my favorites, mostly because I feel like the iconic head-on castle angle is actually not that photogenic. The castle appears massive and sort of blocky from the front perspective. But in person and when viewed at an angle--especially when walking around it--the castle takes on a more interesting and dynamic form.
Perhaps it's because the castle is such an object, rising up from a relatively large expanse of flatness, and its lack of context makes it look almost marooned at certain angles. And walking around and from oblique approaches puts more context around the castle than the traditional moneyshot view. Whichever the case, this is an example of a Disney creation whose photos do not do it justice. But since I'm not anticipating revisiting Shanghai Disneyland anytime soon, photos are all I have!
