Looking to the Christmas Star
This shot is one of those that first appeared online many years ago from one of the original generation of Disneyland fan photographers and became a shot that quickly gained traction on social media as an eye-catching composition. So these days, everyone has their own version (or versions) of this frame. I've taken this photo in the past, but this year, I used my relatively new Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 to snap it free-hand, while walking down Main Street well before park closing. Framing this upward avoids the heads of other guests, which helps. And using the physically compact 85mm prime is easier than hauling a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, which literally requires a more concentrated physical balance to hold still. It's not as perfect as something on a tripod would capture, but on pause, this works out just fine!
