The Lunar Cannon

As far as roller coaster launch mechanisms go, the Columbiad of Disneyland Paris' Space Mountain ride is probably the coolest bit of theming and storytelling integrated into said manner of projection.  Designed as a massive cannon that shoots rocket ships to the moon and inspired by the same device in Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon, it rumbles and charges before firing off its spaceship payload toward the heavens.  That sends riders into a twisting, turning, looping thrill ride that imparts a celestial experience to those looking for such exciting motion!  The Columbiad is part of the fantastic theming that makes Discoveryland a timeless and spectacular part of Disneyland Paris.
