Encountering the First Order
WARNING--STAR WARS: RISE OF THE RESISTANCE SPOILERS IN THIS POST!!
On Friday, the most eagerly anticipated and ambitiously complex attraction in Disneyland history opened after months of testing, adjustment, fine-tuning, and previews. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a game-changing attraction in the theme park industry that redefines what a ride actually entails. Encompassing elements of immersive theater with cutting edge dark ride technology and both physical sets, audio-animatronics, and 3D mapping and video projections, this incredible E-Ticket is epic in scale and grandeur and heavy in action and excitement. Although a clone opened in Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios last month, the version in the original Batuu is only now available to the general public (virtual boarding pass acquisition permitting).
Guests board the ride as new recruits on Batuu, joining the Resistance in their fight against the First Order, but the ride doesn't exactly start when one might think. On Rise of the Resistance, the boundary between when the line ends and the ride begins is blurred, and guests are swept up into the action before they even realize it. And one of the highlights of the attraction (and one that has already appeared in media images a-plenty) is a grand reveal of a legion of First Order troops assembled inside the hanger of a Star Destroyer. Yes, the attraction involves guests getting on (and later having to escape from) a First Order Star Destroyer, and as far as wow moments go, this cinematic opening is definitely one of the most memorable in Disney history.
