It's been nearly two years since it opened, but last weekend was the first time that I finally headed up the steps of the Hyperion Theater to get an elevated photo of the Guardians of the Galaxy ride that replaced the
Tower of Terror in 2017. I've taken this shot many times
before, but always of the
Hollywood Tower Hotel. While the building shape has remained the same, the ride refurbishment gave it a much more contrasting exterior that does not mesh with Hollywood Land at all. Fortunately (I think?), all of this is eventually becoming part of Marvel Land, so in time, it should blend in better with its neighbors. In the meantime, despite how garish it appears in context, during happy hour, the attraction still looks pretty stellar, with the warm afternoon sunlight producing a gleaming display. And I must admit... under such a setting, the scene doesn't look bad!

Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! is even more colorful in the golden hour light, which accentuates its warm wall tones. |
