Although Shanghai Disneyland's Tomorrowland gives it a strong run for its money, Disneyland Paris' Discoveryland remains my favorite future-themed Disney park area. That's because rather than reference a specific vision of the future, this Jules Vernean visualization conjures up a retro future that never was, mixing in a little bit of fantasy with its sleek and naturalistic aesthetic. This view of Space Mountain exemplifies the look. It has a lovely combination of natural elements--like the rocks, foliage, and water feature--and built architecture with structural elements (and at night, sexy lighting) tracing shapely building contours. The result: something that looks like it came out of the pages of a science fiction novel--and something that can remain timeless!
