For me, September marks the start of Halloween season, the spookiest time of the year, and a time of wonderful ambiance. Disney doesn't do terrifying scary attractions, of course, but it's pretty good at eeriness. Phantom Manor, at Disneyland Paris, is a prime example. It's spooky year round, and it gives off a certain "Psycho House" vibe from where it stands, on a hill at the end of Thunder Mesa. This dilapidated old Victorian mansion has plenty of haunts, many of them grim, not all of them grinning. It's a spectacular ride and a wonderfully twisted combination of macabre and magnificent. Consider this a mood setter as we venture into Halloween time!
