The Eerie Estate

Mental association is a power thing, and one of the reasons I think the Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris looks so sinister is because of its visual similarity to the infamous Bates home (aka "Psycho House") from Alfred Hitchcock's suspenseful masterpiece, Psycho.  Both houses have a dilapidated Victorian style complete with a tri-part facade, mansard roof, and even similar window structures.  That feel of decayed elegance creates a sense of mystery and thrill that the other Haunted Mansions of Disney mostly lack.  But it's quite an effective visual ploy, and it goes with Phantom Manor's darker mood throughout the attraction!

The ominous Phantom Manor looms with a spooky presence even on a sunny day.
