When the Imagineers were working the redesign of the entrance area of Disney California Adventure and wanted to explore the placement of a commemorative Disney statue in this park, they looked to Walt's history in Los Angeles as inspiration. Striking upon Mr. Disney's humble arrival, they placed this statue at ground level, "among the masses," just as Walt (and Mickey) were still simple beings looking to strike their mark, but had not yet done so. At this point, they still had ways to go, but young, optimistic, and in a city built on dreams, the confidence they portrayed would go on to change the world of animated cinema and contemporary culture and society forever!
